{"id":417,"date":"2019-11-28T18:11:09","date_gmt":"2019-11-28T18:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/suyin-liang.com\/art3\/?page_id=417"},"modified":"2023-05-09T15:03:59","modified_gmt":"2023-05-09T15:03:59","slug":"requirements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/art.ccny.cuny.edu\/art_history\/requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>MA Art History<\/h2>\n<p>The MA degree with concentration in Art History requires 30 credits of coursework including the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A1000: Research Methods of Art History taken during the first fall semester (3 credits)<\/li>\n<li>eight elective art history graduate courses (24 credits)<\/li>\n<li>a Master&#8217;s thesis paper demonstrating competence in scholarly research (B9000: Master&#8217;s Thesis Research, 3 credits; for more on the MA thesis see <a href=\"https:\/\/art.ccny.cuny.edu\/art_history\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Thesis-Proposal-Guidelines-Final-2-20-2020.docx\">Thesis Proposal Guidelines<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/art.ccny.cuny.edu\/art_history\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/GRADAUTION-REQUIREMENTS-and-DUE-DATES-for-the-Thesis-and-Qualifying-Papers-FINAL.docx\">GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS and DUE DATES for the Thesis and Qualifying Papers<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Art Museum Studies Concentration<\/h2>\n<p>The MA degree with concentration in Art Museum Studies requires 36 credits of coursework including the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A1000: Research Methods of Art History taken during the first fall semester (3 credits)<\/li>\n<li>B7000: Museology \u2014 an introduction to museum history and current issues (3 credits)<\/li>\n<li>B7100, B7200: Museum Apprenticeship I &amp; II \u2014 two semester-long museum internships (6 credits)<\/li>\n<li>B7400: Museum Exhibition Analysis (3 credits)<\/li>\n<li>two qualifying papers (QPs) or the option of an MA thesis for students following a curatorial path (for more on QPs and theses see <a href=\"https:\/\/art.ccny.cuny.edu\/art_history\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Qualifying_Papers-guidelines-Final_2019-1.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Qualifiying Paper Guidelines<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Art Museum Education Concentration<\/h2>\n<p>The MA degree with a concentration in Art Museum Education is designed to meet the needs of professionals and students interested in creating and understanding art museum education today.<\/p>\n<p>Requirements for the Art Museum Education Concentration can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ccnyartmuseumeducation.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Language requirement: All MA students must pass a language requirement before graduating. The Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures administers a translation exam in the Fall and Spring semesters. Any students who know they cannot pass such an exam should take a level 1 class in the CUNY Graduate Center&#8217;s Language Reading Program and pass with a B or better.
