[DIAP] MFA fellow Marielis Garcia is showing “In the Fold<\/a>” on October 10th and 11th.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

In the Fold is a geometric abstraction through music, visuals and movement.
\nJoined by choreographer Marielis Garcia (MG DanceArts), sculptor Caleb Nussear and Jazz trombonist and composer Ryan Keberle contemplate nostalgia and dreaming through the study of sense and perception.<\/p>\n

[DIAP] MFA alum Laura Schneider<\/a> has a solo show opening at The Project Space at NYU Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n

\nNYUAD, Project Space<\/span><\/p>\n

The Project Space at NYU Abu Dhabi presents the works of faculty member and artist, Laura Schneider, in her solo exhibition, Thymesis, open to the public from September 24-October 7, 2019. The artist was inspired to title the exhibition Thymesis after learning about the medical condition, hyperthymesia, while reflecting on the role of autobiographical memory throughout her own work. \u201cHyperthymesia\u201d derives from the Greek words hyper (\u201cexcessive\u201d) and thymesis (\u201cremembering\u201d). People afflicted with hyperthymesia can remember every detail of their own life. Schneider reflects that \u201cthose of us without this condition perhaps forget more than we remember and are left to fill in the blanks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thursday September 19th, [DIAP] MFA fellow Marielis Garcia<\/a> is collaborating with choreographer Madeline Hollander in a performance at the Whitney Museum of Art. An article about the performance with quotes by Marielis Garcia has appeared in the NY Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Saturday September 21, 2019, 8:00pm \u2013 9:30pm, [DIAP] MFA fellow Marielis Garcia together with Nicole von Arx, will present “Objective Bodies” at Judson Memorial Church – New York City<\/a>. Choreographers Marielis Garcia and Nicole von Arx seek to question the neutrality of, or lack thereof, bodies in space.<\/p>\n

To remain objective invites a sense of neutrality – can bodies of gender, color, or experience ever be neutral? Perhaps we do not want them to be.
\nObjective Bodies is a shared evening of choreography by Swiss artist Nicole von Arx and New York artist Marielis Garcia. Each artist will premiere two different dance works revolving around the social implications that directly affect the way we attend to, take notice of and develop within our own bodies.<\/p>\n
