Knouf will come for a public lecture to speak about her fascinating work. Location: The DIAP MFA Studio, SH 408. The title of her lecture is: The Xenology Notebooks<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Xenology is the study of the strange, the alien, the unfamiliar. In a time of rampant xenophobia, it behooves us to consider how various processes of\u00a0<i class=\"\">making strange<\/i>might themselves foster disalienation from our alienated existence. Referring to her own artworks, those of fellow artists, and theoretical currents, she will suggest the importance of the\u00a0<i class=\"\">xeno<\/i>\u00a0in our contemporary moment.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Bio: N. Adriana\u00a0Knouf\u00a0is an Assistant Professor of Cinema and Media Studies at Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA. She is a media scholar and artist researching noise, interferences, boundaries, and limits in media technologies and communication. Her current research project,\u00a0<i class=\"\">The Xenology Notebooks<\/i>, explores practices of &#8220;making strange&#8221;in terrestrial and extraterrestrial media. This includes new performance works for humans, drones, satellites, and radio transmission. She is also the author of\u00a0<i class=\"\">How Noise Matters to Finance<\/i>\u00a0(2016) and numerous scholarly articles about such varied topics as surveillance, networking, papermaking, radio, satellites, and video games and feminism.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/art.ccny.cuny.edu\/diap\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Knouf_flier.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1853\" src=\"https:\/\/art.ccny.cuny.edu\/diap\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Knouf_flier-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"Adriana N.
