(In)visible Guides Workshop Participant, 2022<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Join DIAP student @ciguapacafe<\/a> alongside @perfectcitynyc<\/a> for their neighborhood tours and convening! (In)Visible Guides<\/a><\/em> is an art and research project created by Perfect City\/The Catcalling Project and residents of a Lower East Side shelter for domestic violence survivors. The project combines map-making workshops, public art installations, convenings, and publishing designed to help survivors become public advocates for better protection alternatives to policing in public space. We believe everyone benefits when our most marginalized and least visible residents have more agency in the design of our neighborhoods and cities.<\/p>\n

If you’re in the area (or know someone who is), please consider swinging by and doing some “slow-looking”\u00a0or forwarding along to a friend. I was there for the opening last week and\u00a0all the work is fantastic. I’m back down in DC\u00a0for the Artist Talk today!<\/p>\n

ABOVE BELOW WATER takes a deeper look at the current global climate change crisis related to rising sea levels, culture, and how we stay connected. From Bangladesh to Anacostia, Aotearoa-New Zealand to South Carolina, each piece explores both processes and the outcome, weaving together who and what belongs with us, now and in the future.\u00a0The exhibit is\u00a0part of DC Flood Awareness Week and sponsored by the District Department of Energy and Environment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

All Your Sojourns Have Led to This (Continuum) <\/i><\/b>Thursday, June 15th at 8 pm, Smack Mellon<\/a>

The second commissioned work as part of her residency at ISSUE Project Room<\/a>. All Your Sojourns Have Led to This (Continuum) <\/i>will showcase her multimedia works for voice, sound, electronics, and performance. The event will take place on Thursday, June 15th at 8 pm in Smack Mellon<\/a>, located at 92 Plymouth St. in DUMBO, Brooklyn.<\/div>\n

She is collaborating with with Asiya Wadud (poetry) and DIAP MFA fellow Art Jones (projection mapping), and TISSUB (wearable sculpture).<\/p>\n

About the work: All Your Sojourns Have Led to This (Continuum)<\/i><\/p>\n

After establishing methodologies of invisibility, opacity, and disappearance as ways of not being seen or recognized, All Your Sojourns Have Led to This (continuum) moves toward a framework of hauntology that seeks to bring to light apparitions that continue to exert a powerful influence on our present reality. This involves a deep engagement with the material traces of the past, such as monuments, archives, and personal narratives, as well as an attentiveness to the more intangible aspects of haunting, such as the emotions and affective resonances that can arise when confronting complex legacies. Through the potential of the body, voice, image, and sound, I accept the embodied past as a force that is never entirely gone and can continue to shape our lives unexpectedly.<\/em><\/p>\n
