10/08 Senses Exposed – DIAP exhibition
Senses Exposed,
Senses Exposed incorporates the use of sight, sound and touch to offer a physical and emotional relationship between the viewer, artwork and artist. Each artist in the show presents an individual style in engaging our sensory perceptions, incorporating interdisciplinary research interests, methodologies and principles in fields such as social science, anatomy, cultural history, economics, and architecture. Though diverse in their material explorations, the works are united in their intention to expose their audience to the digital in contemporary art and the conceptual foundation of their practice. The focus of this exhibition, situated within the context of the ever-expanding influence of technology, is to consider the ability of digital art to captivate multiple senses at once and actively engage the viewer within the space of the work.
Artworks such as Nido, A Quiet Exit, and Searching for Arrow express the influence of internal human experience through perception, and its relationship to the external forces that shape everyday existence. Other works, including Two Women (and) Strangers in the Mirror and Unstable Bond I, explore the discrepancies between the psychological and physical realms, and the legitimacy of the digital image as a representation of reality, engaging the viewer within this tension.
